Erica Just is an experienced artist, illustrator and designer who specialises in watercolour painting. Works include designs for textile fabrics, book illustration, greeting cards and original artworks of her paintings of grasses and natural forms.

She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Erica has taught drawing and painting at universities, schools and art groups throughout the UK.

Our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and this class is specifically tailored to suit a range of different abilities with beginners being very welcome.

Watercolour painting is a fabulous medium to work with and can be approached in many different ways. The day is aimed as an introduction to painting with watercolour and to gain an understanding of the various papers, paints and brushes you might choose to paint with to achieve your desired effect. An insight into the various tools and equipment will be of particularly beneficial for those who have not painted with watercolours before. Composition and consideration to the mood of a painting will be discussed.

The morning session focus will be to gain an understanding of the basic materials and techniques and application of watercolour washes. You will produce a series of swatches to take away with you as guidance for you to refer to in the future.

After a break to get some lunch the afternoon session will be spent developing your understanding of the techniques to produce a series of small studies of natural forms. A pod, a shell, a flower.

There will be a selection for you to choose from but you are welcome to bring with you objects of your own. Erica will work with students individually and the emphasis of the studies is to experiment with a range of mark making skills and to gain confidence to continue to paint with watercolour.
