Wet felting is an ancient art form where layers of wool fibres are worked together using warm water, soap and a little bit of elbow grease.
Our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and this is the ideal introduction to 3D wet felting. You will be creating your very own bespoke felted bag, glasses/phone case or bowl. It is suitable for either beginners, or those who want to improve their skills.
The session will start with an explanation about the different types of fleece and fibre and the origins of the ancient art of felt making. As the wool fibres shrink they twist and fuse together to create a unique natural fabric. 3D wet felting expands on the basic process by fusing the wool fibres around a plastic resist to create a seam-free bag or bowl that requires absolutely no sewing. You will be guided through the whole process through demonstration and practice pieces. (If you have any allergies or skin sensitivity please bring your own soap on the day – any type is suitable).
After lunch you will be shown how to design, lay out and felt your beautiful and unique bag, pouch or bowl. A range of wools and fibres will be provided for you to use. By the end of the day you will have a bag pouch or bowl that you can embellish with a range of materials such as buttons, beads and threads.
Please note that your creation will still be wet at the end of the class but you will be provided with a plastic bag and instructions about drying it. You will also take home the skills required to produce future felt creations.
