Our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and we hope the feeling of going home with a desire to learn more.

Modern calligraphy is a fresh, new style that brings a flexibility and uniqueness that is both appealing and accessible. You will have seen this on trend script everywhere and the beauty of learning this style is that it is easy to master and personalise, making it unique to you. Modern Calligraphy lends itself to a more fluid, closer-to-your-handwriting approach than other, more structured calligraphy styles.

On this 1 day workshop you will have the opportunity to learn more and practice more throughout the day. Sessions are always light hearted, fun and aimed to give an understanding of the skills needed to produce this very popular and beautiful script. Ideal for embellishing your crafted cards with those personal touches or generating your own unique designs.

Learn about the history of calligraphy and how to correctly hold the pen and generate the strokes needed to create this lovely script. Practising this technique during the morning, will help gain your confidence to demonstrate all that has been learned.

After a break for lunch you will learn about design, layout and how to use this script to its full potential. Complete a finished piece of your choice (such as a card, place name, gift tag etc.) which combines all the flourishes and skills of the script.

Everything is provided for the class including a basic nib holder and fine point pen nib (perfect for right or left handers), practice lines, letters and paper (all yours to keep) along with Jane’s years of knowledge and information on this historic skill.

Using fantastic metallic inks with calligraphy, your work will look a million dollars.

Many other products for excelling at this art will be available to buy on the day.

The course focus is always on fun and friendly creativity with lots of personal tuition from an experienced calligraphy artist.

FOOD: Teas and coffees will be provided throughout the day but we would suggest you bring your own lunch to the workshop. The class will be held adjacent to the marvellous Mulberry Tree Cafe, where if you prefer you can purchase reasonably priced and always delicious food.

The course cost includes all materials and teas / coffees throughout the day, along with includes your own nib holder and nib take away with you after the class.
